MR40 Lounge Chair Mies vd. Rohe 1932

Initially designed by the Bauhaus Master Ludvig Mies van der Rohe as a new type of deck chair for transatlantic steamers. The back was meant to be hooked into the rail. By simply adding a cantilever-like base it became a luxurious indoor chaiselongue.

This chaise lounge takes advantage of the aesthetic qualities of tubular steel, a supposedly utilitarian material, while exuding luxury through the contrast between padded leather and the minimalism of its chrome frame.
