Bauhaus ottoman Mies vd. Rohe 1929

In 1929 Barcelona hosted the Universal Exhibition and the government commissioned German architect Mies van der Rohe to create the pavillion representing Germany on Montjuïc during the exhibition and its furniture.

The bahaus master Mies had to create an elegant ottoman, comfortable and well-built. The Barcelona ottoman has been an icon of modernism. He takes inspirations form old models of folding chairs, where his frame is made of very fluid forms of chromed metal.

The top is made of individual leather cushions , its foam is treated against fire. This is the original 1 seat version. In the same period, he also made a Barcelona chair and a Barcelona day bed.
