In 1929 Barcelona hosted the Universal Exhibition and the government commissioned German architect Mies van der Rohe to create the pavillion representing Germany on Montjuïc during the exhibition and its furniture.
The bahaus master Mies had to create an elegant day bed, comfortable and well-built. The Barcelona day bed has been an icon of modernism.
The top is made of individual leather cushions, its foam is treated against fire. In the same period, Mies also made a Barcelona chair and stool.
